Fontana di Trevi (Trevi Fontein)

(Curiosities)

City: Rome

Information

The Fontana di Trevi or Trevi Fountain is the largest and most famous fountain in Rome Italy

The fountain is about 26 meters high and about 22 meters wide. She stands in front of the Palazzo Poli. The fountain was commissioned by Pope Clement XII.

The theme of the building is the ocean with majestic sea god Neptune drawn on a shell-shaped chariot to the ocean by winged horses and young sea gods. One horse is quiet, the other rears. This symbolizes the two faces of the sea.

Referring to the fountain in the back and right over the left two coins in rolls, eyes shut, thinking of Rome and cries Arrivederci Roma, one will ever return to Rome or will be the love of life in the city encounter. The coins are sometimes at night and especially in the summer when it's warm by homeless removed from the fountain.

The name comes from the words Trevi via tre (three roads). Previously there were three ways out of the fountain in the square.
